Training is an integral part of the successful and innovative Parish and Town Council. Training helps Councils reach their full potential, giving them knowledge; skills; competencies; best practice; legal guidance.
It shows a commitment on the part of the members and staff of a Parish/Town/Community Council to the professionalism of that Council.
The EALC has a long and successful record in training Clerks, Chairmen, Councillors, and other Officers, which it is justly proud. Training is aimed at people new to the Parish & Town Council Tier and those within it who require refresh training, whether purely to update their skill set or as the result of changes in legislation.
We deliver courses drawn up by the National Training Strategy (NTS), locally drawn up bespoke courses, workshops, briefings and conferences on a wide variety of topics aimed at meeting the needs of the members. We also offer Courses which are certificated by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) on topics including Risk Assessment, Health & Safety, First Aid and Food Safety. In 2017 we introduced our Saturday Courses, covering a range of different topics from Councillor & Chairman Training along with Planning, Social Media & Data Protection, all of these have proved extremely popular with Councillors that work full time.
We believe that it is important for the sector that training should be undertaken in a variety of forms, interactive, facilitative etc. To see our current training sessions go to the link at the bottom of the page. If a particular course is not listed that you require for your Parish/Town Council, please contact the office as we also run Short Courses tailored to meet the needs of an individual Council.
The value of networking between attendees at training should not be underestimated. We can all learn new ways of getting involved and helping our communities. This in itself dispels the misconception that a small Council means a Council doesn’t do much!
We provide training on how to undertake the Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA), encouraging Clerks to progress their knowledge under Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
