Dear Chairman, Councillors, Clerks and Other Partners
I am writing to advise you of an initiative being spearheaded by the Lord-Lieutenant of Essex, Mrs Jennifer Tolhurst. As you know, the COVID-19 pandemic has been very challenging for many people, separating loved ones, leaving people feeling isolated and alone. However, the worst affected are arguably those who struggle to look after themselves. You can help to recognise those who have gone above and beyond to look out for others in their time of need, and help the wider Essex community during this unprecedented time of national emergency, by nominating them for a national honour. For further details and how to nominate exceptional people for an honour, please find the attached Essex Honours Brochure.
Please also share the brochure far and wide, sending it to not only Town and Parish Councillors, but also the wider public that are within our community. It is important that the unsung heroes of Covid-19, who made a genuine, positive impact on other people’s lives are rewarded. Please include the brochure in your next newsletter to your residents, link it on your council social media (such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter Pages) and also upload it also to your websites, whilst including the honours promotion in your Council meetings. In order to nominate the right people, deserving of this great honour, we need to reach the widest possible audience.
Thank you for your support in getting the Essex Honours message out to the communities. Also, if you know of someone who has shown commitment to their community, or someone who has consistently and diligently helped others, please nominate them. They may be eligible for an award and recognition, bearing in mind that people cannot nominate themselves.
Councillor Peter Davey,
Chairman of the Essex Association of Local Councils
