The EALC provides advice and guidance on all political developments relevant to Local Government. The National Association of Local Councils' policy unit represents the interests of local councils to MPs and government departments and Ministers. The Essex Association is in daily contact with the National Association and is therefore able to present relevant, current issues to the decision makers. the EALC Chairman is a member of the policy committee.
Legal advice is offered locally by the County
Secretary, or via the NALC Legal Team. The County Office aims to
provide good quality guidance on all government initiatives. Advice
offered during this year included NALC guidance on personnel issues,
code of conduct, pensions and New Ethical Framework, Data Protection
and Race Relations. Councils requiring NALC assistance should contact the EALC County office.
We receive the Local Council review and we are subscribers to the Direct Information Service provided by the NALC. We circulate a monthly newsletter to members, containing items of local interest.
Larger councils are welcome to become members of the Larger Local Councils' Forum. Meetings take place approximately four times a year and speakers are usually invited to speak on matters specific to larger councils. Chairman - Geoff Fulford clerk to Leigh on Sea Town Council
