Safer Essex Roads Partnership Invitation

Please see the below message from the Safer Essex Roads Partnership inviting parish and town councils to attend their brand new ‘Vision Zero’ engagement workshops. This event will help develop a new approach to road safety and it will complement many other social issues such as climate change, mobility, health and sustainability. The SERP are interested in hearing your views on what might be missing from their strategy. For details, please see the below message.

How many people dying on the roads of Essex every year do you think is acceptable?

... 42?  20?  4?

The Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP) believes that ZERO is the only acceptable number and has launched its aspiration for ZERO road deaths and serious injuries on roads in the Essex, Southend and Thurrock council areas by 2040.

About the events

We have developed a draft Vision Zero Strategy which sets out how we might achieve this aspiration but we want to hear YOUR ideas as to how you want us to work with YOU, your community and your business or organisation. This will help us understand wider views and will shape the final strategy.

Please come and share your thoughts and ideas at one of our Vision Zero engagement workshops. They will be held online on October 5th, 6th, 13th and 28th, with approximately 30 delegates at each. They will last two hours and be hosted by the Deputy Police Fire & Crime Commissioner, Jane Gardner.

Why attend?

In 2020, 47 people died and 675 were seriously injured on Essex roads in preventable road collisions. We are all human and make mistakes, but no one deserves to die in a collision as a result of that mistake.  Whether you’re a cyclist, a pedestrian, a car driver, a person who drives for work, an elected representative or a mixture of all the above, you can join us and contribute to ending the trauma that is caused by collisions.

We will be sharing our new approach to road safety at the workshops and asking for your views.  It’s a subject that complements many other social issues such as climate change, mobility, health and sustainability. We’ll be asking you how you can help and what might be missing from our strategy.

Who should attend?

  • SERP partner representatives
  • Local authority representatives
  • Parish Councillors
  • Essex businesses
  • Local road-user group representatives
  • Community Speed Watch volunteers
  • County Council Members
  • Anyone who believes there are too many deaths and serious injuries on Essex roads
